Is your EFI a bit IFFY?

The Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system combines fuel and air in an internal combustion engine. It uses a particular type of fuel and is the main delivery system for modern vehicles. Since it is a computerised system it needs to be serviced by a qualified mechanic with the appropriate diagnostic equipment.

Mansfield Motors are part of the Repco Authorised service centre network which means we are kept up to date on all the latest electronic fuel injection servicing best practices and our work is covered by Repco's Nationwide Warranty.

Problems affecting an EFI system

The system is usually overseen by the Electronic Control Module (EMC), the minute it malfunctions the fuel injection system starts having problems. In case you encounter such a problem it is advisable for you to consult a mechanic. The mechanic will test the system before he advices you on the best course of action. There are so many things that affect the EFI system's performance and that is why diagnostics and testing are required. Some of the common problems include misfiring, stalling, no starts, hard starting and surging. If the injectors are dirty, they reduce the amount of fuel flowing into the engine, this results in reduced performance and a higher emission of gases.

There is a process that someone can follow to determine if their EFI needs to be serviced. The system functions effectively in the presence of a pressurised fuel supply to the injectors, a good air supply and an efficient computer control. If there is a drivability issue the engine could be cold so check the manifold for a leak or the fuel system pressure. When you take your vehicle for EFI services the mechanic tries to match the car's engine to its EFI system. In case the problem is still present then the professional will test the EFI system to see if it is functional.

There is a certain amount of fuel pressure needed for the car engine to start. In case the pressure drops then engine produces a clanking sound. The mechanics in Brisbane can conduct a fuel volume test or a static test to determine what the problem is. Sometimes you may experience problems even with the right pressure due to a low fuel volume; a fuel volume test can be conducted to confirm this.
